Just curious, any Magento users out there? (http://www.magentocommerce.com/) Any opinions on how easy it would be to learn the system and get started with it? Might be doing some work with it for another developer, and I need to figure out if it is something I can learn as I go, or if I would need to get a background in it before offering it to clients/people I work with.

... and, in case you read this Stefan, we could use an "eCommerce" section of the forum to discuss ecommerce/shopping carts, etc. I'm not totally sure that this post fits within the Blogs and CMS category.

I just upgraded this morning to Wordpress 2.8 and a feature I was using and need has been changed. It makes sense, but multiple users cannot be registered if they have the same email. The problem is that I register "authors" on the back-end so that I can publish writing from several church ministers under their named. I use my email address for all of them and now it won't let me.

Anyone familiar enough with PHP and Wordpress to point me in the right direction?

Adding blog to existing site?

Hi I have just found this website, looks like a great place to find some pointers.

I looked through the previous posts on this but didn't really clear up my query.

I want to add a blog to an existing site but have it appear to be part of the site, here is an example i found.

http://www.littleposers.com.au/

My question really is how do i add it so the entire page has the same feel of the rest of the site and the menu is the same?

All the wordpress blogs seem to be a bit hard to change.

thanks for any help you can give me or point me in the right direction.

SEO AND HOW TO USE WORDPRESS

Hello

Thank you for all your great work and being such an
encouragement to learn more about code and Wordpress.

From what I've been taught, Wordpress can be a very good SEO tool
if it is kept up and new entries are made every day. I did do entries
on my web site for about 90 days last year and my articles began
showing up on Google. It was very interesting.

Now, here is why I am writing.
I have a website http://www.secondwindstaging.com that I am using to
sell lighting equipment. It is entirely HTML, and I have been trying to
work to convert it over to CSS, and that will happen soon (I truly hope).

I was considering converting the web site over to a Wordpress site.
I was also considering instead to put a Wordpress blog
on the site at the second level.
Question: Would SEO work better if the whole site was Wordpress?
Would Wordpress be stifled if it is put on the second level?
Would the Wordpress articles come up on Google as readily if it
is installed on the second level?

Another question: Will Wordpress hold HTML, or will I need to
use CSS. The thought is daunting because I am not ignorant about
how long it takes to learn any code. I'd like to get the Wordpress up
soon.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again for your great help.
Sincerely,
queenpictoria

Wordpress: No paragraphs or line breaks showing in Biographical Info

When I go to Users > Authors & Users > and then click on my username, I am trying to fill in the Biographical Info box where it says, "Share a little biographical information to fill out your profile. This may be shown publicly."

The problem is that if I try to divide my text into paragraphs, they aren't sticking. I can see in the admin that the paragraphs are there, but out on the website, it gets displayed as all one paragraph. Looking at the source code, I see that there is indeed one
at the beginning and one
at the end - nothing in between where I added line breaks.

I've posted this question on the WP forums and received no answer. Does anyone here know if there is there a way to fix this?

ETA: I forgot to mention that I've tried to physically add
or
tags, but they don't stick either. And there's no wysiwyg editor for this section. Hmmm...

every blog has there own feed link build in - when you subscribe you get the latest posts to date. however if you really like the backdated posts, is there a way to modify the feed link to get posts from a specific date (e.g get posts from 2008 to present ) so that then can sit in you rss application giving you the ability to tag then and read them when you get the time

this is something that i have not been able to fine through google, so im not sure if what im asking is possible

album templates in CMS made simple

I'm hoping that someone can and will help me with the CMS made simple album module. I have used it before so I am a bit familiar with things but struggling with a couple issues now. I am deciding between two basic album templates, the greybox and the thickbox.
-greybox - works great in FF but in IE the enlarged images tend to comeup, flicker white and then load. This happens with each image in the series everytime.

-default- in both FF and IE the enlarged image comes up under the flash header. I know this is a common issue with flash and I know a tiny bit about z-index but don't know where to start with it in the css. Actually I did play with it but nothing seemed to help.

[solved this issue of the flash being on top with wmode] but still the issue for greybox template
I don't know what else to supply for now to get answers to my question but here is a link show the greybox 1st

CMS Made Simple

This is supposed to be simple, but I am really struggling with this.

Not helped by trying to upgrade and my internet went down, eventually did a clean re install.
I have it installed live as I have unlimited broadband, although we get a reasonable amount of downtime and it is not fast.

I cannot find a "getting started" tutorial. I've tried reading all the documentation and end up getting lost. I'm not a novice by any means as am reasonably competent in hand coding and Dreamweaver, but am just totally lost with this.

If I started editing the site that gets set up, then i lose this, how do i start a new site just so I can start playing around with layout etc.

I really need to get going with something like this as other people need to be able to edit the websites I build without the need to know HTML.

Any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated.

I have looked at the forums, but can't find anything.

Offline article editing for CMS publishing

What do you think about using offline WYSIWYG editors for article editing? Is cut & paste a good idea?

Can word processors as Writer (Open Office org) be good to use? ...or are specific HTML editors more suitable?

How can I do, and does text wrapping work that way?
