New Wordpress Screencasts!

Leave Comment
I just added nine new tutorial videos covering new Wordpress 3 features in the KillerSites University (http://www.killersites.com/university - subscription required.) You can find them within the Wordpress > Wordpress 3 section.

These videos are aimed at web designers/developers who have at least a basic understanding of PHP and have worked with Wordpress a little in the past.

The first two videos cover creating your own custom taxonomies. Although you may not be familiar with the term "taxonomy", I'm sure you have used Wordpress's "Tags" and "Categories" feature, and custom taxonomies allow you to create your own methods of organizing your content. This feature has been around since Wordpress 2.3, but Wordpress 3 recently gave developers the ability to create hierarchical taxonomies -- similar to the way that "Categories" work. If you need an additional way to organize Wordpress posts, pages or custom post types, creating a custom taxonomy may be the solution.

The other seven videos cover how to build an online product showcase (think of it as a very basic online store without the e-commerce functionality) using Wordpress's Custom Post Types feature, as well as showing how to use a custom taxonomy to organize and display the products. Custom Post Types are a new Wordpress 3 feature that are extremely useful to help hold and organize content that don't fit into the traditional "post" or "page" content types.

Hope you find the videos useful! If you have any questions, feel free to send me a PM here on the forum or send an email to "ben[at]killersites.com."
