Hello all,
I recently released a couple new videos covering .htaccess and mod_rewrite basics. Assuming you are working on a Linux based server, mod_rewrite makes it easy to create clean, pretty urls. Wouldn't you prefer to have "/contact/" rather than "index.php?page=contact"? Or "/controller/method/variable/" rather than "index.php?controller=controller?method=method?variable=variable"? Mod_write is incredibly flexible, and makes creating clean URLs relatively simple. These clean urls look better, are easier to remember, and may help improve your search engine ranking.
I just started learning about this myself, so I can't say I know everything about the topic just yet. But hopefully you'll find my examples and discussion of basic mod_rewrite techniques useful. If you have any questions, feel free to post in the forums!
The videos are available in the KillerSites Video Library (available to subscribers - http://killersites.com/university/) under Web Design > .Htaccess & Mod_Rewrite.
