I found this article today with a good list of alternate open source software for those that can't afford the commerical software. It's a good list but not entirely the most accurate. Just read the comments at the end.

I spent three hours trying to get LAMP installed on Ubuntu 11.04 and I'm not exactly new to Linux. I really like using Ubuntu, it's faster than Window on my system, and not too far behind with my Macbook. However, I should not be spending that much time installing software. On Windows it's a one or two click deal with WAMP. With that being stated, that list seems very subjective...

BTW: you cannot compare Gimp to PhotoShop
