I don't know if this was ever posted here in the past but I found a really great tool that will allow you to share files instantly without having to provide FTP access or upload it to your host site or whatever.

Dropbox

In addition, it's faster when it comes to uploading and downloading. Don't ask me why but it is certainly much faster and easier to use.

Also, it has a sync that will update any new or modified files. You can either view your files via Dropbox website or a special Dropbox folder on your computer using Windows Exporer. If you happen to add a file to the Dropbox folder via Windows Explorer it will automatically upload it to the Dropbox website.

It's secure too. The only way to share the files is by getting a user to sign up for Dropbox using your email address as a referrel and then install the Dropbox software (very small) and you are good to go.

Space is another issue. Most email account are limited to 10mb but Dropbox has a 2gb space. Most of my psd files I get from clients now seems to be over 10mb causing them to use FTP. I now just tell them about this.

This is also ideal for those that have two or more computers that may not be connected on the same network (router) but need to get files over from one computer to another via internet.

I have been using this for about a month now and I can't begin to tell you just how much easier and faster it is to get files to other people I work with without the hassel of FTP, emails, etc.

Most of you know me and I generally don't post links to another site unless I think it's worth while for developers and even a typical user.

I use this site all the time -- it's really convenient, since I don't need to carry files on a flash drive or email them to myself if I need to transfer files between computers.

Yeah, that's another thing I like about it. It gives you extra space by just doing a few things such as refer someone. Besides that, I like that fact how easy it is to get files from one computer to another. And again, it just seems so much faster compared to using FTP of any sort.

I don't understand how it can sync with the cloud or other computers if you are offline. However, it looks very useful and I will probably give it a try but I will probably want to sync with an old XP computer and I'm not sure if it will do that.

I have been using it for some 8 months... for those files I may want on the fly, pictures of family and dogs, funny pictures, my notes on Pottawatomie phrases...

But I actually discovered it for my Android Phone, pain accessing or transferring files I get on the phone. I uploaded all my desktop images for the phone to make space.

Nothing sensitive though. Last I checked it was still one of the top rated Free cloud services (But as usual I do not have the link I'm thinking of handy). But I believe Gmail has the service and Hotmail now has a cloud service for hotmail users. If you have not noticed it is right on you Hotmail page and is called SkyDrive and is automatically part of a Hotmail account or you can download it from SnapFiles for free as an application interface.

To be honest, I never considered DropBox for customers... but then I am not freelancing any more either.

Dropbox in the past did have security issue but keep in mind that it was prior to their 1.2.48 release which have since resolved those issues.

Not sure if Apple is still blocking Dropbox since that release but has nothing to do with security issue.

Not sure how it could work when offline. As for XP, it should work. Nothing states on the Dropbox site that it won't nor does it define any minimum requirements. As a matter of fact I will problably install this on my old XP computer later next week.

Been using it for a while now, and it's a nifty little thing. I am a forgetful kinda guy, so I just upload lecture slides to Dropbox when I have a university class and forgot to bring my textbook.
