WAMP Opperational

I downloaded and installed the WAMP program from a website called www.wampserver.com. However it would not function and produced an error message.

I am running Windows 7.

I noted that the WAMP program literature mention only Vista and XP.

The error messages are located on my web site at - http://www.ozsmart.com/wamp.html

Could someone give me some assistance in this regards

Thanks

Two other things to mention...

-- If you have Skype installed on your computer, the ports that Skype and WAMP use conflict, which causes problems. @Eddie's link above also tells you how to fix that conflict.

-- Also, make sure you are running the correct version of WAMP, since there are two separate versions http://www.wampserver.com/en/download.php -- a 32 bit version and a 64 bit version. You need to install the version that will work with your computer's setup. To figure out which version you need, check "How can I tell if my computer is running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows" here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/32-bit-and-64-bit-Windows-frequently-asked-questions

You can see which service isn't starting:

- Right click WAMP icon in your task bar

- Go to Apache > Service. The "Stop Service" and "Restart Service" buttons should be active, and the "Start/Resume Service" button should be inactive. If that's not the case then your Apache service isn't starting. You can check "Apache error log" and see what's causing the conflict/issue. Most of the time it's IIS service's port conflict.

- Go to MySQL > Service. The "Stop Service" and "Restart Service" buttons should be active, and the "Start/Resume Service" button should be inactive. If that's not the case then your MySQL service isn't starting. You can check the "MySQL Log" to see what's causing the issue.

By the way, services don't start instantly. Depending on your computer speed, they may take a while to start. So when you first load WAMP, the icon will always be red, then turns orange after few seconds, then after few seconds turns green. So make sure you give it enough time to start. Also effectively after clicking "Start All Services" you should wait few seconds (30 sec maybe?)and if the icon doesn't go green, check each service and see which one isn't starting, check the error logs, and post them here if you have to.

I have resolved the problem thanks very much to the information above, pointing me in the right direction. However the solution may just be helpful to you other novices like myself.

In my endeavours to learn website databases I had downloaded a Microsoft program (Silver Light) that already included a Web server program. By understanding that other programs for servers could interfere with the operation of the WAMP server, even if its files were located in be Programs File directory and WAMP was on the C Drive itself I went looking at my programs to see if some conflict was obvious, and it was.

When I removed Silverlight program plus another program that had also installed web server software on my computer I found that the WAMP server program is functioning beautifully without any further correcting as suggested above.

Thank you everyone for your assistance.
