The Final Days Of Ie...

It seems that our friends at M$ are finally giving up on IE and it's horrid reputation among most old time users and many web designers. It seems that IE will still exist to some extent for Enterprise usage, but that M$ is working on a second, at this time, un-named browser. Known as Project Spartan, this will be a second browser shipping with Win 10 and eventually replacing IE completely. Now they just need a really nifty name for it.

As for me... I still think IE will remain around like a zombie long after it is declared dead and eating the brains of web designers across the planet as it refuses to die as I said IE 6 would.

That said... M$ did make a cute video about folks like me. (Only I do admit that IE improved allot in recent years, not enough for me to like or use it, but better.)

LOL!

It will. But the upgrade cycle is much quicker these days vs how it was in the past. That said, IE has a much smaller market share to begin with. And this is a good thing.

Funny, us old-school web developers/designers know the pain of working with IE! That said, once apon a time, IE6 was king and did a better job than Netscape ... at the time.

We must all be thankful that IE also pushed forth 4 important things:

  1. Conditional comments
  2. inner HTML
  3. HTTPrequest object - thus ajax
  4. And they refused to render XHTML as HTML, and I think that helped HTML5 emerge ... which is miles better than XHTML.

Windows 10 users back away from the Edge browser:  http://www.pcworld.com/article/2989902/browsers/windows-10-users-back-away-from-the-edge-browser.html

Microsoft’s new Edge browser has been largely ignored by U.S. users of Windows 10, an online measurement company said Monday.

Instead, Google’s Chrome has shanghaied Windows 10’s top browser spot.

Although Edge—the default browser bundled with Windows 10—got a temporary boost when the operating system launched in late July, its share of all browsers on the OS quickly slipped from an early peak of about 16% to its current 12%.

According to San Francisco-based Quantcast, Chrome is the dominant browser on Windows 10 in the U.S., with a share slightly north of 70%.

I'm ready to move up to Windows 10 since my PC is about 5 years old but not a point to buy one until later this year.  My wife upgrade her laptop to W10 and she likes it.  I have not really heard any really bad issues when you upgrade from 7 to 10 but then I have not looked around enough to make any opinions about if I should go ahead and upgrade or not.

I just upgraded and I don't know if you can rollback. I would say probably not because it is a big upgrade.

That said, I just upgraded a 4 year old SSD i3 laptop and it runs at about the same speed as Win 7 and you get the advantages of Win 10. I believe Win10 is the best Windows ever.

Thanks Stefan.  As much work as I do I am reluctant to upgrade because I do not want to experience any downtime.  I asked about upgrading to a mirrored drive but with OEM and the product key embedded, my concern is getting access to Windows 7 during work hours while dealing with Windows 10 when I am not working.  I have till near the end of June to make up my mind.
