Domain Name Rent Seekers

Hi,

Rent seekers are people who look to skim and profit off of other peoples hard work by grabbing important assets and renting them out. This is actually the source of the economic problems around the world today – bankers, patent holders and other rent seekers, skimming off the real economy made up of entrepreneurs and employees.

… Rent seekers do not add to societies, they skim and steal, much like mafia thugs who collect protection money.

Don’t fall for domain name rent seekers.

The rent seeker leeches have now found their way into domain names, where these nefarious characters will buy up a bunch of domains (probably having paid $8.99 each) and then will try to rent them out to unaware entrepreneurs/startups at some ridiculous cost.

I’ve seen listings where they are asking for thousands of dollars A YEAR to rent out the domain to people!! This is legal, but it is dirty. Again, don’t be fooled into doing business with these people and don’t be fooled into thinking a domain name has great value in of itself.

Valuing Domains

These rent seekers (and other scoundrels) will try to convince you that because a domain name is short and has some sought after words in it, that somehow it is worth thousands. It is not.

The true value of a domain is really derived from the traffic that the site generates. In the old days, people paid big money based solely on the words in a domain name – for example:

– business
– toys
– marketing

… etc.

If your domain had words/terms like these, and the domain name was short, people would go crazy thinking it was like owning land with oil in the ground! Perhaps in the 1990’s when people on the Web where not as savvy, but those days have long gone. Think about today’s most popular sites:

– google
– facebook
– linkedIn

… Do you think the domain name had ANYTHING to do with the success of these websites? No.

Hope that helps,
