I’ve been a Windows user for many years (13) and just recently (and for the first time,) I decided to buy a Mac - I wanted to try something new.
BUT VISTA IS COMING OUT … THAT’S NEW!
I saw Vista (and Bill Gates’ keynote at CES,) and yes, it does have some nice looking baubles. But to me, it still looks like Windows.
One thing about Vista that has not been mentioned in any speech I have seen: stability and quiting an application.

Consider this common scenario when wanting to shut down a misbehaving application:
WINDOWS
end process - > ‘are your sure you want to do this?’
yes
end process - > ‘are your really sure you want to do this? it could make your system unstable …’
yes
end process - > ‘we were unable to stop the process..’
!!!
MAC OS X:
Quit.
-> Done
For me, that is the one ‘killer feature’ in an OS - no complaining and delays when shutting down an application.
… Since moving to Mac OS X, I’ve noticed my stress levels have dropped about 36.3%.

Another person turning to the dark side….
Well, actually.. when I want to close a program on Windows Vista, it closes. I don’t know where you got your “multiple prompt” theory from, but definitely not from something I’ve seen in my month of using Vista.
Though to be fair, I’m trying to terminate a rogue Photoshop CS2 process right now, and it’s really not happening

I only played around with Vista so I cannot say too much about it.
But from what I’ve seen … I’m not impressed.

The inability to terminate a process in Windows is probably the #1 reason for me to not like using Windows much anymore.
Early process termination is tricky.
Programs go haywire, they don’t do what you expect, and they are possibly programmed dodgily by someone else outside the OS. When the user asks that you end the process, you want to give the application a last minute chance to close down properly, so that it can save the files etc.
Whats really happens when you ask it to end the process in windows is the following;
It signals the application to close itself (so it gets a chance to prompt the user to save files or whatever)
Then it brings up the dialog asking if you really want to terminate the application, just in case the program is prompting you if you want to save the file and you haven’t got around to clicking yes yet.
In vista they put a whole new process management in, to help make it a lot quicker, but yeah there are a lot of trickiness for OS creators in this issue and its not “simple”

Perhaps not. But it seems that Mac OSX makes it seem so.
Mac OSX is the best! And you can forget about viruses!
